Now you have a light so you are going to need some nutrients. For beginners a nutrient system from General Hydroponics is a great starting point. Foxfarm is a little more expensive and definitely better stuff. In the vegetative state your plants need an excess of Nitrogen (N). During the transition they want more Phosphates (P2O5) and for flowering they need Soluble Potash (K20). Other important building blocks are Calcium (Ca), Cobalt (Co), Manganese (Mn), Sulfur (S), and Molybdenum (Mo). We will break down how to distribute these in more detail later.
The next item on your list should be a grow medium. My favorite is hydroton because it allows a ton of air to get the roots. This is important when growing some killer herb. Hydroton pellets should be soaked for 24hrs to normalize the pH. You can re-use this medium as many times as you want. Rockwool can be used but I have always heard that there are pH problems unless carefully monitored. You can also use perlite or vermiculite but they are only good for one round. It’s your call, but the best medium really is hydroton. (Expanded Rock Clay)
Now all you need is your ppm meter, your seeds, and you’re ready to get started.
